Hiden Galleries Booth - Photos

It was a busy, busy day. We got everything moved into the booth just minutes before the grand opening party. It was definitely an affair to remember. Many thanks to all those involved. Here’s a few pics from my phone...

Eugene Andrew Agafonoff / Evgeniy Andreevich Agafonov Paintings

These three paintings are absolutely amazing! A Tsar with his cabinet, a Tsarina and her city and a battle scene - each painting has true depth, huge scale and vivid colors!

Four Deco Prints by Boris Lovet-Lorski

Check out the 20th Century Art section for four great prints by Boris Lovet-Lorski. The technique used to create the prints resembles a charcoal drawing!

New Paintings and Other Things

It was a great weekend, even with all the rain. I've posted a few new paintings by Levier, Meltsner, More, Cikovsky, Soyer. Also, be sure to check out the 20th C Furnishings as I've added some things there, too...

GIANT 20th Century Metal Easel

Okay, imagine this. A land where everything is giant. Kind of like that part in Gulliver's Travels (you know, the part when the woman puts Gulliver on her...). Now imagine there's a gallery in this land. This is the easel that would be in the gallery in the land of all things GIANT. If you don't believe me, check out these photos...

Trip to the Islands Yields Amazing Treasure!

It was a balmy day, perfect for island hopping! Well, we actually made it to just one island. And that island, you ask? The exotic locale of Long Island. Okay, not exactly tropical, but amazing none the less. We purchased three large Russian (?) paintings each depicting an allegory (?) - research will commence soon, the BIGGEST tiger oak frame imaginable and a gold leaf / wormy chestnut mid Century Modernist frame. Images will be available in the next few days, as the items are still en route. Check back soon!!!

busy, busy, busy... Here's What's New!

The past couple months have been crazy busy (to say the least). There's so much that's new, here's the inventory! A beautiful early 18th Century, or maybe late 17th Century, Tondo frame gilt and hand carved in the Della Robbia style, an amazing 19th Century Persian frame with incredible inlay, an impressive oil on masonite in a Regionalist / Surrealist style signed Demarco, a pair of landscapes that are both oils on panel by Bernard Corey, a 19th Century English safe, an unsigned oil on canvas that you'll have to see to believe (it was relined so it's going to be a restoration project - who knows what could be there after the restoration is complete!), a Mid-Century wormy chestnut Modernist frame, a Mastercraft two drawer cabinet of burled wood with amazing brass hardware and pulls, an iconic Mastercraft dining table with oval glass top and double brass pedestal bases. The table has a very funny story attached to it. I'll share that later, but a hint would be that there's now a lot of sentimental value!!! Hope you like what's new. Retail Space in West Chester

As many of you know, I always bring my inventory to the client. Perhaps you've seen me walking the streets of Manhattan with a plethora of frames, a chair or a painting? Or was it in an NYC taxi - stuffed to the windows with fabulous antiques? Ah yes, it was on the 6 train, laden with frames on my way to the Upper East Side. Well, as I am now dealing in more furniture, I've joined an amazing shop in West Chester. The booths are in room setting format, six in all, with large showcases in the center. I'll be sure to provide more info, directions and a link to their site once they are up and running. For now, if you're curious, here's a pic. See you soon on the MTA North as I travel to Mount Kisco!

I've Been Framed Again and Site Updates...

This was one of those picture perfect weekends in NYC, well Sunday at least. Great weather and great shopping. At the flea market, I picked up a few frames that are really lovely. An early 20th Century Taos style, an early 20th Century Arts & Crafts style and a mid 19th Century tondo frame with the original hand blown glass. In the next few days, I'll be updating the site with more paintings. Keep an eye on the 20th Century Art page as it will soon contain works by - C. B. Mayshark, K. Suyemura, D. Prensky, M. Vinsun, A. H. Gorson. The sconces I picked up are looking great. I removed the layers of dust and stripped out all the old wiring. This was not fun. A few cuts later from the porcelain fixtures and 100 year old wiring, they are now ready for polishing and re-wiring. The elephant painting is, more than likely, a Beal. It was de-assessioned by the grand daughters up in New England and bought from an estate up there. It's now been framed and is quite striking.

SoHo House Call...

It was a beautiful afternoon Friday. I got a call from a friend and went to a house sale in SoHo. Now in the HKFA & A inventory are a great Robert Indiana Love screen print exhibition poster from 1973 and a set of nine early 20th Century silver plated, double arm wall sconces. Just beautiful.

Galerie Agreable du Monde - 100 Copies

So, a little more research shows that the map of Zutphen by Pieter Boudewin Vander Aa was part of the Galerie Agreable du Monde. This is an incredible atlas that was published sometime prior to 1729. Only 100 copies are thought to exist.

P. vander Aa Map of Zutphen

Who said all the great stuff is off the market? A recent buying trip to the West Village (my neighborhood) produced this great map. Very happy to have it...

Great Abstract Painting

Looks like the recovery is on the way. Recently we purchased a great, vibrant abstract painting. So, now in addition to the 'Elephant Painting', we have a new abstract. I'll take a photo and post it to the site soon...

The Circus is Coming to Town

Well, maybe just a family of elephants. This amazing painting is just lovely. Broad, bold brushstrokes. Impressive impasto. Strength and simplicity. This is truly a gem. Unsigned. Now the research begins. Sure, I have a few ideas on the artist. The obvious candidates. But, I want to delve a bit deeper. Will keep you posted...

Light at the End of the Tunnel?

Well, there is definitely a bright spot on the horizon, I have a few sales to report amid this economic crunch. Both sculptures by American artist Wheeler Williams have sold. The first to sell was 'Fall' and not to be left alone, the terracotta sold shortly thereafter. Also, the two red chalk drawings dating from circa 1805 sold to a New York collector. In addition the Jacques Villon and the Paul Klee. These last four items were all purchased in Boston. The two Wheeler Williams sculptures were purchased here in NYC. This weekend, I'll be attending an auction, so let's all keep our fingers crossed. I want to be part of the recovery. I made a few sales and now I'd like to buy a few things.
